Joining us at the Swedish Forest Industries Federations early event, Framtidsmötet to help make sense of the current geopolitical landscape is columnist and associate editor of the Financial Times, Janan Ganesh, who will bring his extensive expertise and incisive commentary to bear as he explores the global trends, risks, threats and opportunities currently facing decision makers as they grapple with an increasingly uncertain world.

A tireless observer of international affairs, Ganesh is a respected source of hard-hitting analysis on everything from US-China rivalry, Brexit and its aftermath, a potential future Trump presidency, the West’s reaction to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the challenges to the EU from within and without, the growing importance of Southeast Asia, the axis of autocratic nations, and the decline of the global free-trade consensus.

He was the Financial Times US political columnist between 2018 and 2022 – based in Washington DC for three years and Los Angeles for one – from where he covered the 2020 US Presidential election, the global pandemic, the souring of US-China relations, and the January 6 US Capitol attack.

From 2012 to 2018, Ganesh wrote for the Financial Times as a columnist on British politics and made regular appearances on Sunday Politics on the BBC. He was political correspondent for the Economist between 2007 and 2012, where he covered the financial crash, the 2010 UK general election and the ensuing coalition government.

While politics is his natural habitat, Ganesh is also at home also at home espousing the benefits and delights of globalism in his regular column for the Financial Times Weekend on culture and ideas, in which he provides acerbic insights on subjects ranging from travel, cities, football, art, cuisine, technology and social trends.

Don’t miss what promises to be a hugely insightful, and possibly sobering glimpse into the future and what it may – or may not – have to offer.
