The Nordic countries and North America are the world’s leading net exporters of paper. The Nordic countries are by far the largest net exporters. World paper production was 371 million tonnes for 2009.
Western Europe (excluding the Nordic countries) is the world’s largest deficit area. Asia (excluding Japan) is also a major net importer, while Japan has a small surplus.
