Bio-based products such as wood buildings, green chemicals, textiles and packaging are areas where Finland and Sweden hold a strong position. Investments are being made on a wide front, both in production capacity and in research and development.
To support sustainable growth in the bioeconomy and the conversion to a circular economy, research and development related to bio-based solutions need to be further strengthened, and competitive solutions must be brought to market through new cross-border collaboration.
Today, many promising bio-based solutions exist in lab scale, but technical processes for upscaling are often lacking. With two joint calls, BioInnovation, Business Finland, CLIC Innovation and Vinnova, have supported development and scale-up of key enabling technologies.
