The EU Commission published its Roadmap towards Nature Credits in July 2025. Commission’s goal is to stimulate private investment in initiatives that conserve and restore nature, while providing recognition and rewards to those who implement and support these efforts.
The forest-based sector has long experience of managing forests for biodiversity and are now increasingly using voluntary market-based approaches to conserve and restore forest ecosystems. The roadmap mentions growing business interest in Nature credits but does not specify what these business reasons are. It is important to clarify which incentives exist and how strong they are. The Wood Be Better webinar will investigate this further.
We have a great pleasure to invite you to a high-level webinar to discuss key elements needed for the Roadmap towards Nature Credits to reach its objectives, and how the industry can contribute to this work.
The seminar is hosted by Member of the European Parliament, Emma Wiesner (Renew, Sweden). Other speakers include Axel Hellman, Member of Cabinet of Commissioner Jessika Roswall and Jessica Nordin, Director of Sustainability, Södra.
Some aspects that will be touched upon by speakers are:
- Should Nature credits be result-based or intention based?
- What is meant by voluntary in the context of an EU-wide framework?
- Should Nature credits take into account local, regional and national variability?
- What is the relationship between Nature credits and other frameworks, such as the Carbon Removal Certification Framework and the Nature Restoration Regulation?
- How can Nature credits help close the funding gap for nature restoration?
