The Swedish Forest Industries Federation (SFIF) welcomes the decision to amend the EU’s deforestation regulation. The reform preserves the regulation’s vital purpose – combating global deforestation – while making the rules simpler and more proportionate for many Swedish companies producing fossil free products from sustainably managed forests. The changes are an important step towards reducing unnecessary bureaucracy and strengthening the competitiveness of the forest industry.
– It is positive that the co-legislators clarify the rules for different actors in the supply chain and remove overlapping due diligence and reporting requirements for downstream operators, says Viveka Beckeman, Director General of SFIF.
SFIF will continue to work constructively with policymakers and industry partners to ensure the amended EUDR is implemented in a way that upholds its environmental objectives while enabling efficient, predictable compliance for companies that rely on sustainable Swedish forest resources.
